Author Guidelines for Submission to the Journal of Applied Medical and Surgical Disciplines (JAMSD)

Welcome to JAMSD! We're excited about your interest in sharing your work with our global community of researchers, clinicians, and educators. These guidelines are designed to make the submission process straightforward and transparent. By following them, you'll help us review your manuscript efficiently and ethically.

JAMSD is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access e-journal focused on high-quality, multidisciplinary research in medical and health sciences. We publish biannually (spring and fall) with content available online immediately upon acceptance—no print editions. All articles are free to publish and access.

If you have questions, email us at editor@jamsd.org. Let's get your research into the hands of those who need it!

Editorial Process: From Submission to Publication

Our process is fair, rigorous, and supportive. Here's a step-by-step overview in plain terms.

Submission and Initial Screening

Submit your manuscript only to JAMSD— it must not be under consideration elsewhere. Designate one author as the corresponding author to handle all communication. We'll confirm receipt of your submission within 48 hours. Our editors screen every manuscript for originality and potential impact, absence of major scientific or technical issues, and fit with JAMSD's scope, such as bridging basic science, clinical practice, public health, or digital health. If it doesn't meet these basics, we'll let you know politely— no peer review needed, so you can revise and resubmit elsewhere quickly.

Special Cases

Manuscripts by Editorial Board members are handled by the Editor-in-Chief and reviewed by external experts. If you're from a sponsoring institution, we use independent reviewers unaffiliated with it, and Board members from that institution step aside from decisions. This keeps things impartial and conflict-free.

Peer Review Process

Suitable manuscripts go to at least two independent reviewers in a double-blind process, where identities are hidden for fairness. Feel free to recommend two qualified reviewers with their emails—we'll consider them but make the final call. An assigned section editor oversees reviews and decides on acceptance, revisions, or rejection based on feedback. You'll receive anonymized comments and must reply point-by-point in a revised version— we love clear, constructive dialogue! We may loop back for more rounds until everyone's happy, aiming for 4-6 weeks per round.

Post-Acceptance Process

Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting for grammar, style, and format, with no major content changes. You'll review page proofs and return corrections within 3 days. Everything's digital! Accepted articles go "Ahead of Print" online right away, with full issue assembly later. From submission to publication, expect 3-6 months, depending on revisions.

Appeals

Think a rejection was off? Email editor@jamsd.org with your reasons, such as overlooked strengths. We'll acknowledge, investigate fairly, and respond in 6-8 weeks. Don't submit elsewhere while appealing— and no second appeals, please.

Clinical Trial Registry Policy

JAMSD champions transparent research. We encourage (and often require) trial registration as a signatory to the Statement on Publishing Clinical Trials in Indian Biomedical Journals. Starting enrollment on/after June 2018? Register prospectively in a free, public online registry. Pre-June 2018 enrollments are okay if retrospectively registered with no fees and full public access. Accepted registries include the Clinical Trials Registry of India (CTRI), ClinicalTrials.gov, ISRCTN Registry, and UMIN Clinical Trials Registry (Japan). Include your registration number in the manuscript— unregistered trials won't be considered.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship is a big responsibility— only those who truly contribute qualify. You must meet all four ICMJE criteria: substantial contribution to conception/design, data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation; drafting or critically revising the work for key intellectual content; final approval of the published version; and accountability for the accuracy and integrity of the entire work (or relevant parts). Just securing funding, collecting data, or general oversight doesn't count— nor do "ghost" or "guest" authors. Everyone listed must take public responsibility.

Author Order & Limits

Reflect relative contributions in author order. Changes post-submission need signed consent from all. We cap authors by article type (e.g., 6-8 for originals; justify more if needed, especially for multi-site studies). No undergraduate students as authors— mentored contributions can be acknowledged instead. Upload co-author details (emails, affiliations, institutions) and have each sign a digital copyright form within 10 days, or we pause processing. No post-submission tweaks to the author list.

Contribution Details

Detail everyone's role in a table or section, covering concepts, design, literature search; data/clinical/experimental studies; analysis/statistics; and manuscript writing/editing/review. All authors vouch for the work's integrity.

Conflicts of Interest / Competing Interests

Transparency builds trust. Disclose any potential biases related to the manuscript's topic or publication, institutions, products, or funders mentioned, or competing products/services. Examples include grants, consultancies, stock ownership, or personal relationships. Even "none" must be stated— full disclosure goes in the manuscript and is published.

Plagiarism Policy

We take originality seriously— it's the foundation of good science. All peer-reviewed or accepted manuscripts are scanned with iThenticate software. If issues arise post-publication, we investigate, notify your institution/funders, and retract if needed. Report concerns to editor@jamsd.org.

What Counts as Plagiarism? Copying text, tables, figures, or ideas from any source (published/unpublished, online/offline) without proper credit— even if referenced. Self-plagiarism (reusing your own work) needs clear citation too.

What's Allowed (with Rules)? For short quotes (a few lines), italicize, quote, and cite in-text; indent longer paragraphs. For large sections, tables, or figures, get written permission from copyright holders and submit proof with your manuscript. Acknowledge sources as required. Cite everything ethically— tools like iThenticate help you self-check before submitting.

Submission of Manuscripts

Everything's online and free— no fees for submission, review, or publication! Submit via our secure partner site. New users: Register for free with a username/password to track your article. Prepare two separate files: a main manuscript (Word/PDF, blinded for review with no author details) and a cover letter/title file (author info, contributions, conflicts, ethics approvals). Manuscripts not matching our full "Instructions to Authors" (scope, formatting, etc.) get returned for fixes before review. Stuck? Email editor@jamsd.org.
